Health Care Reform on the Back Burner
It seems now that the election is over health care reform is on the back burner. With all of the bailout money that is being promised how would the government pay for a new health care inititive anyway? Maybe the health care reform efforts should focus on reforming medicare which is probably the most wasteful government program ever. Why should senior citizens most of whom have worked all of their lives pay for health care. Medicare despite the billions of dollars used still requires seniors to pay a portion of their health care. I know that for many seniors the prospect of a serious health issue requiring an operation and hospital stay is one of the most frightening things they face because even having to pay a small percentage of the bill from such an episode will devastate them financialy. One of the strangest things about medicare is the infamous doughnut hole where medicare pays to a certain point then stops paying until a certain amount is reached then it picks up again. This is like totally absurd, why hit seniors with this type of situation at a time in their lives when this sort of thing should be the last thing they have to worry about. I say reform medicare and a lot of the health care issues will be taken care of. Extend it to children that have no insurance coverage and most health care issues are taken care of. The system is already in place it just needs to be reformed to eliminate a couple hundre billion dollars or so in waste and bata boom bata bing problem solved.
